Facts and Figures…
McFarlane Toys has announced they will add to their burgeoning batch of licensed action figures with products for CD Projekt RED’s upcoming video game Cyberpunk 2077. They’ll follow hot on the heals of McFarlane’s previous game tie-in’s representing the worlds of ForteNite, Borderlands and Call of Duty, which were rolled out over the course of 2019.
CD Projekt RED (The Witcher: The Wild Hunt 3) confirmed work on the immersive journey in collaboration with RPG designer Mike Pondsmith – veritable godfather of the pen and paper cyber-game genre – way back in 2012. Author Pondsmith has appeared in his voluminous dystopian future games as “Maximum Mike,” adding a meta component to the surroundings. He’s likely to be seen in similar context in the new outing.
After years of development Cyberpunk 2077 will appear on April 16, 2020. The multiple platform role-playing game (RPG) has already won awards simply for its teaser trailers, so expectations are extremely high.

Cy-Fy Roots…
In addition to roots in science fiction fan favorite Blade Runner and we assume William Gibson’s seminal books, Cyberpunk 2077 boasts the involvement of The Matrix’s Keanu Reeves as virtual character Johnny Silverhand. This 100% first person view role-playing experience, and the release of Marvel’s Avengers game may be the games that finally get me to buy a Sony Playstation 4.
McFarlane’s press release describes the game as “…an open-world, action-adventure story set in Night City, a megalopolis obsessed with power, glamour and body modification. You play as V, a mercenary outlaw going after a one-of-a-kind implant that is the key to immortality. You can customize your character’s cyberware, skillset and playstyle, and explore a vast city where the choices you make shape the story and the world around you.”
The first action figures will debut in spring 2020 with 7 inch and 12 inch versions of guitar slinging Johnny Silverhand and a 7 inch version of Cyberpunk 2077 protagonist V (Male). The models feature 22 points of articulation and a selection of game appropriate accessories. More characters will be available over the next 3 years.
Record Setting Spawn…
Todd McFarlane himself had a busy 2019 garnering a Guinness Book of World Records induction. With the release of issue #301 Spawn became the longest running creator owned comic in history. McFarlane has written, and intends to direct a new film featuring the Spawn character. The movie, still in development stage, has had both Jamie Fox and Jeremy Renner named as cast members. Todd also recently did a private signing session of books and graphic novels for the CGC’s (Certified Guaranty Company) Signature Series.
Also worth noting is the nomination of McFarlane Toy’s My Hero Academia Katsuki Bakugo as a finalist in the Action Figure category of The Toy Association‘s 2020 Toy of the Year Awards.
