NECA’s Knock Out Collectibles @ Toy Fair 2012

NECA will release super detailed Rocky Series action figures

With National Entertainment Collectibles Association’s (NECA) new Portal Device Prop ready to hit the market, it seems like a perfect time to show you some of the other spectacular franchise tie-in’s that are coming from the company this year. Thanks as always to Randy Falk, Director of Product Development for taking the time to show Kenny Pierce and I the exciting things in the offing for 2012.

1 To 1 Replicas…
Like Portal enthusiasts, Assassin’s Creed and BioShock gamers will have life size replicas to add to their collections. Bio-Shockers get a crack at owning the ornate Sky Hook Prop, while would-be Ezio’s can plan their next stealth mission with the weapon of choice, the hidden blade. NECA also has an excellent array of action figures from those franchises to choose from, including the upcoming Ezio Onyx pictured below.

Knockin’ Rocky’s Block Off…
An unexpected but very welcome addition to the line are the licensed Rocky Balboa action figures. These super realistic, sweat glistening, models are astounding. Rocky, Apollo Creed, Clubber Lang and Ivan Drago are all represented. As you can see from the photo, action figure is an understatement as one of the sculpts depicts the Sylvester Stallone character taking a jaw smashing, blood spurting, wallop.

Still Hungry?
There’s quite an assortment of new items on NECA’s menu to be excited about. Along with goodies from both The Harry Potter and Twilight series, NECA has everything you need to outfit yourself for a round of The Hunger Games. Their assortment of Head Knockers continues to grow with superheroes, monsters and even the Jeff Dunham characters. I particularly love the selection of Iron Maiden “Eddies”. You can see their Marvel Avengers Superhero Clix Set in my Avengers Resembled blog post.

Avengers Resembled, Toy Fair 2012 Round-Up

Toy Fair 2012 Was Awash in Avengers Movie Tie-in's

Joss Whedon’s recent denial of writing either The Kree or The Skrulls into the upcoming Avengers movie has fandom buzzing again about who or what the villainous planet attackers that we’ve been seeing in the trailers are. While that little tempest in a teapot continues to brew I thought I would go back to my Toy Fair 2012 photos and pull together a gallery of what was on display there.

Expect a deluge of Avengers themed toys, games and action figures from Lego, Neca, Funco and Diamond Select (I love those mini-mates). Check out my earlier posting on tokidoki for a look at their cool Avengers baseball caps, and the Peavey musical instruments story, illustrated with images of their superhero adorned guitars.

Dread Presidents Attack @ Toy Fair 2012

"I am not a creature!"

One Nation Under Gort…
I simply could not let President’s Day go by without giving you a look at Heroes In Action Toys and Toy Tokyo’s collaboration, “Presidential Monsters”. These cloth garbed dolls recast our commanders in chief as classic film creatures; a hysterically horrific spin on American history. Baracula, Monster from the Watergate Lagoon, The Ronmy, Zom-Bush are highlights of the product line. Clever details like The Watergate Creature’s web-fingered victory signs and LincolnStein’s bolt equipped Top Hat (ready to be juiced by the upcoming Doctor Benjamin FranklinStein) will make you laugh out loud. Interns won’t stand a chance against the JFK “Phantom of the White House” or saxophone toting “Wolf Bill”. Not that they did in reality either.

Better Than Voodoo Economics…
In addition to the 7 currently available action figures, there are plenty of others to come. Prototypes displayed at Toy Fair included Andrew Jackson as Nosferatu (my personal favorite) and Teddy Roosevelt as a white furred Yeti. Also coming is a ghostly George Washington as “The Spirit of ’76”. Apparently Sarah Palin is also in the wings with a Vlad the Impaler spoof.

Ken Pierce and I had a great time chatting with the folks at the Toy Tokyo booth during Toy Fair 2012 and it’s always a treat to visit their store in Manhattan’s East Village. Be sure to check them out for a mind-blowing array of collectible goodies.

Mighty Thor Highlights from Toy Fair 2011

It was a mind-blowing experience covering the sights and sounds of the Annual Toy Fair at the Javitts Center in New York City with Ken Pierce this week. There’s lots to report on and several posts will follow – both here and on Piercingmetal.com – with specifics on some of the items we found most interesting and fun.

To start off I’ve included some images of the varied treatments given to one of my favorite superhero characters, The Mighty Thor. As most of you know the Marvel Comics based film hits theaters this spring and they’ll be a slew of merch to go along with it. Here’s a sampling from the sublime to the bobble-head.
