Cloning Chloe: NECA’s Carrie and KA2 Figures

NECA's new Hit-Girl Figure Gets Chloe's Countenance Just Right

NECA’s new Hit-Girl Figure Gets Chloe’s Countenance Just Right

On a recent subway ride I spied the posters for Kick Ass 2 which jogged my memory about these shots of NECA’s film related figures I could share. These replicas of characters M’Fer (Christopher Mintz-Plasse,) Kick Ass (Aaron Taylor-Johnson,) and Hit Girl (Chloe Grace Moritz) are already available for purchase in anticipation of the film’s August 16th release date. The approximately 7 Inch figures feature more than 20 points of articulation for expansive posing possibilities.

A slew of newly minted ad hoc heroes join the forces in this sequel to the really enjoyable 2008 original. Jim Carrey will portray Colonel Stars and Stripes, whose battering weapon (named Betsy Ross) has also been recreated as a full size prop by the toy company.

Chloe as Carrie: A Beautiful Bloody Mess for your Display Shelf

Postponed from spring 2013 to a more appropriate All Hallow’s season debut is the newest spin on Steven King’s telekinetic teen Carrie White with Ms. Moritz as the title character. Pre-orders are available for NECA’s versions of Carrie/Chloe as pristine prom queen and iconic blood drenched terror in both single and double packs.

SkeletonPete Says…
Julianne Moore will portray Carrie’s religiously repressive mother (first depicted by Piper Laurie) and I’m sure she’ll turn in a great performance, but it’s hard to believe that the opportunity to cast Sissy Spacek in the maternal role was missed.

Electric Indian: NECA and LEGO Get Home on the Range(r)

NECA's Remarkable 1/4 Scale Tonto Figure

NECA’s Remarkable 1/4 Scale Tonto Figure

Hi Ho, Hi Yo…
I would never have guessed it when I first saw Baby Face or What’s Eating Gilbert Grape but Johnny Depp may well earn the classic Lon Chaney Sr. sobriquet “man of a thousand faces.” I mean literally. From The Mad Hatter and Captain Jack Sparrow to Willy Wonka and Barnabas Collins, the guy has been behind a dizzying array of make-ups in the last dozen years. Now Mr. Depp will take on another classic adventure character, Tonto, in Disney’s upcoming The Lone Ranger.

As you can see from the image above NECA has done an incredible job of capturing the actor’s continence in 7” and 1/4 scale action figure, along with others characters from the film. The 7” figures were released on May 28, 2013 and the 1/4 scale Lone Ranger (Armie Hammer) and Tonto on will arrive on June 14, 2013.

LEGO Gets the Essence of the Western Genre Just Right

A Lil Depp ‘ll Do Ya…
For the younger crowd, LEGO has several wild west tableaus based on the film’s set pieces. This franchise is a perfect match for the company’s modular miniatures and the figure selection represents the full cast of characters. The boxed sets include the Camanche Camp, Cavalry Builder Set, Stagecoach Escape, Colby City Showdown, Silver Mine Shootout, and the Constitution Train Chase. They feature the all fun details and actionable features you expect from the LEGO toy line.

SkeletonPete Says…
While my personal tastes for cinematic tales of the old west skew towards those of the Italian 1960’s breed or the insanity of hybrids like Sukiyaki Western Django, I’m glad to see the genre return to the mainstream. The trailers suggest a tongue-in-cheek action flick poised perfectly for release between Man of Steel and Pacific Rim, with plenty of sagebrush for Depp to chew. Happy Trails.

Memento Mori: NECA Preps Predator Trophy Room

NECA (National Entertainment Collectibles Association) has some really unique additions for your display shelves scheduled for 2013 and beyond. Their broad series of film and video-game licensed products are always expertly rendered and they have a sharp sense of the specialties collectors desire. Previous coverage of their product line can be seen here.

Heads You Lose…
One piece of particular interest spied at New York Toy Fair 2013 is the detailed replica of the Predator Trophy Wall as seen in Predator 2. Measuring 11” high x 12” across NECA says the limited edition diorama was created as “a reward to the fans who have faithfully collected all the various Predator figures and exclusives,” giving them a place of honor for the trophy skulls they’ve gathered. Not exactly what you’d bring home from the local bowling tournament but irresistible none-the-less. The backdrop comes replete with a massive toothsome lizard noggin as an exclusive. 7 more souvenirs of the extraterrestrial hunters’ quarry can be attached from your existing collection or purchased separately.

Limited Edition Trophy Wall…

Series 9 and 10 of the popular Predator action figure series will focus on two classics. Series 9 (June 2013) gives us two versions of Arnold Swartzenegger as Dutch Schaefer from the original 1987 film, as well as a semi-translucent “water emergence” version of his Yautja adversary. The “Jungle Disguise” Dutch is a spectacular piece, bound to be a favorite.

In Series 10 NECA chose to pay homage to the loveably loopy Kenner Predator figures by putting their own spin on the Nightstorm, Lava Planet and Hive Wars styles. These are currently scheduled for August release.

Loving the Alien(s)…
Of course you can barely utter the name Predator without alternately thinking of one of their prime prey, the Alien. NECA gives us a relaunch of the Aliens series, with Colonial Marines Hudson and Hicks, as well as a brand new xenomorph for them to battle. The marines measure approximately 7” inches tall and come with a hefty arsenal of weaponry and tech.

The new Alien measures an impressive 9” high and has 30 points of articulation, bendable tail, and extending interior jaws. NECA debuted these beauties at Toy Fair with a dazzling diorama including customized acid spattering wounded creatures. Sorry fans this one was for display only but it gave a great view of the extensive positioning the new creature toy is capable of. This one is a masterpiece of movability.

Just in case you have a hankering for the characters from the puzzling Alien prequel Prometheus, there is a full line of selections for you.

NECA has lots more in store including stunning 1/4 scale Adam West and Michael Keaton Batman figures and Lone Ranger, Kick Ass 2, and Carrie series. There are plenty of photos to share and I’ll be keeping you up to date as release times approach.

NECA’s Knock Out Collectibles @ Toy Fair 2012

NECA will release super detailed Rocky Series action figures

With National Entertainment Collectibles Association’s (NECA) new Portal Device Prop ready to hit the market, it seems like a perfect time to show you some of the other spectacular franchise tie-in’s that are coming from the company this year. Thanks as always to Randy Falk, Director of Product Development for taking the time to show Kenny Pierce and I the exciting things in the offing for 2012.

1 To 1 Replicas…
Like Portal enthusiasts, Assassin’s Creed and BioShock gamers will have life size replicas to add to their collections. Bio-Shockers get a crack at owning the ornate Sky Hook Prop, while would-be Ezio’s can plan their next stealth mission with the weapon of choice, the hidden blade. NECA also has an excellent array of action figures from those franchises to choose from, including the upcoming Ezio Onyx pictured below.

Knockin’ Rocky’s Block Off…
An unexpected but very welcome addition to the line are the licensed Rocky Balboa action figures. These super realistic, sweat glistening, models are astounding. Rocky, Apollo Creed, Clubber Lang and Ivan Drago are all represented. As you can see from the photo, action figure is an understatement as one of the sculpts depicts the Sylvester Stallone character taking a jaw smashing, blood spurting, wallop.

Still Hungry?
There’s quite an assortment of new items on NECA’s menu to be excited about. Along with goodies from both The Harry Potter and Twilight series, NECA has everything you need to outfit yourself for a round of The Hunger Games. Their assortment of Head Knockers continues to grow with superheroes, monsters and even the Jeff Dunham characters. I particularly love the selection of Iron Maiden “Eddies”. You can see their Marvel Avengers Superhero Clix Set in my Avengers Resembled blog post.

Avengers Resembled, Toy Fair 2012 Round-Up

Toy Fair 2012 Was Awash in Avengers Movie Tie-in's

Joss Whedon’s recent denial of writing either The Kree or The Skrulls into the upcoming Avengers movie has fandom buzzing again about who or what the villainous planet attackers that we’ve been seeing in the trailers are. While that little tempest in a teapot continues to brew I thought I would go back to my Toy Fair 2012 photos and pull together a gallery of what was on display there.

Expect a deluge of Avengers themed toys, games and action figures from Lego, Neca, Funco and Diamond Select (I love those mini-mates). Check out my earlier posting on tokidoki for a look at their cool Avengers baseball caps, and the Peavey musical instruments story, illustrated with images of their superhero adorned guitars.
