Brooklyn Soul Festival 2010 Finale

My last couple of videos from Brooklyn Soul Festival 2. Renaldo Domino croons his “Not Too Cool To Cry” (Twinight Records 1970) with The Sweet Divines and is joined on stage by Betty Harris, Harvey Scales & Eli “Paperboy” Reed for a lovely rendition of Curtis Mayfield’s “People Get Ready”.

More Funky Stuff from the Brooklyn Soul Festival 2010

Here’s some of Funkmeister Harvey Scales “boogie ’til you drop” set at The Bell House on October 9, 2010. The Sweet Divines’ “Divine Soul Orchestra” laying down the grooves. There’s a bit of “Love-itis”, probably best known from the cover version by J. Geils Band. Joining Harvey to shake it down on funk juggernaut “Get Down” are Ashley Vitha of The Sweet Divines and Meah Pace of Binky Griptite’s Mellomatics.

I included some of the better still images I captured during his set in the middle of the movie. Hope you enjoy it.

Harvey Scales (in hat) blows the roof off The Bell House

I think if I were allowed only two days of music in my time on this planet, I would have to pick the two days I spent at the Second Brooklyn Soul Festival, held at The Bell House on October 8th and 9th, 2010. The line-up was incredible, the musicianship phenomenal, and the joy was palpable. To try to describe the experience in words would do it an injustice, so I’ll leave the photos and videos to the do the talking.

Thanks to all the folks who run Dig Deeper as well as Eli “Paper” Boy Reed, J. B. Flatt, and their amazing bands for pulling this thing together.

Fair warning: Dig Deeper will be hosting a 2011 New Year’s Eve Soul Party at The Bell House starring Marva Whitney.

More photos and videos to follow in the next couple of days.
