Putting Out The Fire With Gasoline: Meet the Superwomen of DC Comics’ “Gotham City Garage”

Gotham City Garage Statues from DC Collectibles – Wonder Woman as you’ve never seen her before!
DC Collectibles has been adding to their Gotham City Garage statue series over the last few years and showcasing them at Toy Fair and Comic Con. SkeletonPete knew I’d fall in love with them. He knows me too well. I was instantly drawn to these gorgeous sculptures, these beautiful superwomen on motorcycles, in particular, Wonder Woman, my childhood hero.

When I saw these DC heroines reimagined as fierce biker chicks, I could instantly envision a live action or animated series set in this universe. Shortly thereafter, creators Jackson Lanzing and Collin Kelly announced their plan for a comic book series of the same name. I couldn’t wait to dive in and that’s unusual for me, as I’m not typically a comic book collector. Well played, DC. Mission accomplished. You reeled me in… and at 99 cents per digital download, it was an investment I was more than happy to make.

Strange Days Indeed. This beautiful rendition of Marvel Comic’s Dr. Strange will join Mezco’s One:12 Collective.

The Toy Industry Association’s (TIA) 114th North American International Toy Fair in New York City is less than 24 hours away and as always we are preparing to bring you coverage of the newest products and toy trends for the latter year gifting season. Cameras are packed, lenses are polished, and we’re stocking up on energy bars for the 4 day foray that encompasses the entire Jacob K. Javits Convention Center and parts beyond.

Another Fine Mez…
Thanks to the fine folks at Mezco Toyz we got an amazing head start. Their recent sneak peek event (held at their outer borough Fortress of Solitude) afforded the opportunity to grab lots of unfettered photos of their upcoming offerings. This post will reveal the additions to their One:12 Collective, but you can expect plenty of pix of Living Dead Dolls and other licensed goodies to appear here as well. Keep in mind this is an advance look and many of these prototypes are still pending licensor approval.

Punch Drunk Love: Marvel Comics’ Punisher gets Mezco’s detailed One:12 Collective treatment.
Toyz Story…
I’ll keep the chatter down since this post was promised as a gallery of prototypes for Mezco Toyz‘ burgeoning One:12 Collective series first revealed at their pre 2016 American International Toy Fair event. Take a look, the details speak for themselves. Having had hands on experience with the Dark Knight Batman and the Star Trek Mr. Spock I can say that the production models are as refined as the prototypes.

I recommend you make a point of checking out Mezco’s website for information on each character, it’s accessories, and the pre-order schedule. Many are selling out early.

Ka-Boom: DC Collectibles Expands “Bombshells” Merch

DC Collectibles Harley Quinn gets another “Bombshells” Spin.
Girl Trouble…
Even the infamous Joker has his hands full when the ladies of DC comics get their own line of collectibles. The company’s Bombshells statues have recast their fantasy heroines and villainesses in the style of 1940’s pinups. Artist Ant Lucia began creating these vivacious calendar girls for DC Collectibles back in 2012. The first in the series, a “Rosie the Riveter” style Wonder Woman, set the tone, with Supergirl and Poison Ivy carrying on the lineage of artists like Gil Elvgren, George Petty and Alberto Vargas. Since then DC Comics has joined in the fun with a run of Bombshells variant covers. The group of sexy sirens has grown to include a revved up Stargirl and rock-a-billy Black Canary who might be belting out Wanda Jackson’s “Fujiyama Mama.”

Bat’er Up…
Later this year Batwoman gets to swing for the far wall in a baseball card themed statue taken directly from a DC variant cover, while Lois Lane in paperboy attire will hawk the Daily Planet. Also in waiting is a very sophisticated Catwoman in a very little black dress, and Harley Quinn in a deluxe edition covers a hapless and helpless Joker in crimson smooches.

Wrap Your Troubles in Dreams…
The popular line expands into other merchandising areas with the announcement of branded blankets and robes. A recent press release reports that “Ant Lucia’s classic pin-up style artwork of DC Comics’ super-heroines continues to grace the DC Bombshells Satin Robes from Underboss and blankets from The NorthWest Company! The exclusive Harley Quinn robe features a two-toned red and black coloring with playing card diamonds on the front and a high-spirited Harley holding her trusty pistol on the back. Alternately you might choose to “get comfortable and curl up with your very own DC Comics Bombshell Harley Quinn or Wonder Woman tapestry blanket! Each blanket measures 46″x60″, is made of soft acrylic, and carries vivid detail of everyone’s favorite Queen Clown Harley Quinn or Can-Do Wonder Woman…”

You can find those exclusives on order through the March issue Diamond’s Previews catalog.
